1221 Wheels “X” configurations bring a truly unique offering to the premium forged marketplace. Our AP2x, AP3Lx, and AP3x wheel configurations feature a 20 bolt construction. Traditional multi-piece forged wheels from every other manufacture use 40 bolt construction. Thanks to advances in Finite Element Analysis (FEA), physical wheel testing standards, and our own technological design innovation we’re able to push the traditional boundaries of wheel construction. 1221 wheels is uniquely positioned in the market to be the only premium forged brand offering this 20 bolt construction.

Why 20 bolts? Less hardware means less weight. This innovation allows us to save substantial amounts of weight in comparison to a standard 40 bolt wheel. We’re able to use the portions of the assembly flange on the wheel traditionally occupied by assembly hardware to be completely cut out from the wheel on both the center disc and the rim parts as well. This means we not only save the weight of the assembly hardware but the weight of the metal removed in this area to create our “X” pockets. On a 2-piece (AP2x) wheel we save this weight not once, but twice as we pocket the inner barrel as well. On a 3-piece wheel (AP3Lx, AP3x) we save this weight three times (on the center disc, outer lip, and inner barrel).

Traditionally a 2-piece wheel weighs more than a 1-piece, and a 3-piece wheel weighs even more than a 2-piece. As you might have guessed, the more parts to a wheel the more it will weigh. Our “X” technology stands this assumption on its head and pushes our 2-piece AP2x wheels close to parity with a 1-piece alternative, and a 3-piece weight close to that of a 2-piece. Not only can you get a truly unique look from the “X” pocketing that no other brand offers, but you can claw back the performance loss typically associated with a modular wheel as well. As there is no longer a performance penalty for a modular wheel you can keep the added concavity and customization benefits our 2 and 3-piece construction provides.

TWO PIECE CONFIGURATION

The AP2X configuration introduces two entirely new profiles to our 2-Piece lineup. For the first time, we bring the concave wheel to the front axle of a wide variety of sports cars, super cars and exotics, a place where concave wheels were previously thought to not be possible. Along with the added front concavity, the rear profile has been revamped as well making it the most concave profile we offer. The AP2X still has all the benefits of our traditional 2-Piece configuration including the monoblock aesthetics, true 3-piece modularity, greater application compatibility, and the ability to offer wheels of any width. The AP2X configuration is available in the Apex3.0 and V.I.P. Editions, and is constructed from aerospace grade 6061-T6 forged aluminum.

THREE PIECE CONFIGURATION

AP3Lx takes our ground breaking AP2x innovation and brings it to the 3-piece floating leg wheel for the first time in history. This configuration now features a 20 bolt design (instead of 40 bolts), weight reduction pocketing on the assembly flange of the center disc, and additional weight reduction pocketing on the inner and outer barrels. These features create a unique design aesthetic no other brand offers and reduces weight significantly compared to a normal floating leg 3-piece wheel.
